The Zhu Fu Lamp is part of our Ashmolean Collection. Decorated with pomegranate fruit ripening on the branch in cobalt blue and red on a white background, the piece is inspired by the design on a Qing dynasty pilgrim bottle held by The Ashmolean Muserum. Complete with a hardwood base and carrying a fully lined cream-coloured shade.
Zhu Fu, the pomegranate arrived in China along the Silk Road, from Samarkand, Iraq or Syria where it grows in the wild. To the Chinese it was a symbol of fecundity and prosperity. The pomegranate, the peach and the citron are Zhu Fu, China’s three blessed fruits, featuring on a Qing dynasty pilgrim bottle made around 1730.
The base is also available as a jar on our sister website – Please click here to view.
The images display the lamp turned both on and off.
